  • A dark, moody cover showing a dimly lit floor of an old room. In the center sits a crude wooden toy-house or shack, surrounded by scattered miniature ladders and bits of metal or toy parts. At the front is a toy train with glowing yellow headlights heading toward the viewer. The author’s name “Linwood Barclay” appears large at the top in white, with the title Whistle in bold yellow near the bottom, and the tagline “Some toys should be left alone…” in smaller white text above the title.

  • An eerie and eye-catching horror cover. A set of descending stairs fades into shadow, with the book title When the Wolf Comes Home displayed across each step in bold white lettering. At the top of the stairs stands a terrifying black wolf with glowing red eyes, saliva dripping from its fangs, set against a blood-red background. A Stephen King quote hovers nearby: “Terrific... Today marks my 12th year recognising World IBD Day Today marks my 12th year recognising World IBD Day whilst living with IBD… but this year, I found myself asking a question I never thought I would.

Do I actually still have IBD?

After 3 surgeries, having everything from the ileum down removed and now living with a stoma, my Ulcerative Colitis is no longer active. There’s nowhere left for the disease to flare in the way it once did… so where does that leave me?

Am I someone who had IBD? Or am I still someone living with it?

In today’s blog post, I wanted to explore that question because IBD is so much more than just a bowel disease. Even without active disease, I still live with the effects it left behind.

A stoma gave me my quality of life back after years of immense pain and failed treatments, but it isn’t a cure. It’s a management route with its own ups and downs.

I’d love to know if anyone else with a stoma has ever questioned where they fit within the IBD community now 💜
