Zarina O Cosmetics African Net Sponge // The August Review

We’re sticking with body care, but this time I’m reviewing something a little different: a tool rather than a traditional beauty product. Enter the Zarina O Cosmetics African Net Sponge. I’ll admit, before trying this, I hadn’t really thought much about my go-to shower scrunchie. I had my usual routine, but I was very curious to see whether switching to an African sponge would actually make a difference.

So, has this completely replaced my old shower sponge? Let’s get into it…

A hand with light pink manicured fingernails holds up a deep burgundy, mesh net African exfoliating sponge against a light, marble-patterned background. At the center of the folded mesh cloth rests a circular beige sticker featuring a gold logo with the letter "Z" enclosed in a stylized circle, above the text "ZOC African Exfoliating Sponge."

Zarina O Cosmetics African Net Sponge (Body) – RRP £9.99

The brand describes the product as:

“Elevate your self-care routine with our African Net Sponge, designed to outlast loofahs and deliver superior exfoliation. Its stretchy net effectively removes dead skin and reaches those tough spots, like your back. Suitable for all skin types and helps assist with a variety of skin concerns.

Pros:

  • Leaves my skin incredibly soft.
  • Gives a really good exfoliation without needing lots of effort.
  • I’ve noticed an improvement in the appearance of the dark areas under my arms.
  • I can reach every part of my body, including my back. The long, stretchy design makes it much easier to use than a traditional sponge.
  • Helps me exfoliate more thoroughly.
  • A little shower gel goes a long way because the net lathers products so well.
  • More hygienic than some traditional shower sponges and loofahs, particularly because it can be rinsed and hung up to dry.
  • Easy to clean after use.
  • The exfoliating texture leaves my skin feeling properly clean and refreshed.

Cons:

  • None!

The Verdict:

I absolutely love this. I wasn’t expecting a shower tool to make quite such a noticeable difference to my body-care routine. But I genuinely don’t want to go back to using a traditional shower sponge now.

The biggest thing I’ve noticed is just how soft my skin feels after using it. It gives a much more thorough exfoliation than the products I’ve used previously. And I feel like I’m actually getting the most out of my shower gel.

I’ve also noticed that the darker areas under my arms have improved since using it, which was a really lovely bonus. Obviously, everyone’s skin is different and I wouldn’t promise the same result for everyone. But it’s something I’ve personally noticed during the time I’ve been using it.

One of my favourite things about the ZOC African Sponge is the length. I can actually reach every part of my body, including my back, without performing some sort of elaborate gymnastics routine in the shower! The brand specifically designed the body sponge to be long and stretchy so you can hold either end and scrub your back, which is something I really appreciate.

I also think it’s a more hygienic option than some traditional shower sponges. You can rinse it properly after use and hang it up to dry. Rather than having a sponge sitting around retaining water. The brand recommends rinsing and hanging it after each use and replacing it every six months for optimal performance.

There honestly isn’t anything I’d put in the cons section for this one. It’s become one of those products where I wonder why I didn’t try one sooner.

If you’re looking for something to replace a traditional shower sponge or loofah, particularly if you want something that can exfoliate, reach your back and leave your skin feeling incredibly soft, this is one I’d absolutely recommend.

My Rating: ★★ (5/5 Stars)
