Clowns // Creator Edition
With Halloween just around the corner, I thought it would be fun to do a post on clown looks for Creator Edition. I love the long standing tradition of clowns being linked to Halloween. And also because the makeup can be instantly recognisable while still being simple to recreate. An extra bonus that a full costume is not always needed!
So many creators have put their own spin on clown-inspired looks over the years. Choosing just a few favourites wasn’t easy. I’m sharing some of my top picks today, but you might spot a version that excites you or feels doable to try yourself. Please leave a comment and share any you find!

Victoria Davette
I recently came across Victoria Davette on TikTok and instantly became a subscriber to her YouTube channel. She’s an American digital creator based in France who loves makeup and all things beauty. Whether she’s creating everyday looks or Halloween and franchise-inspired designs.
Birthday Clown
When I decided to put together this post about clown looks, it was actually Victoria’s Birthday Clown YouTube video that inspired me to explore 3 different types of looks. One cute and whimsical, one leaning into the Halloween-horror vibe, and one vintage.
Victoria’s birthday clown is such a fun, pastel-inspired look that could work for pretty much any fancy dress occasion. I love that it also gives a nod to those with October birthdays who might otherwise feel overshadowed by Halloween.
What I adore about her version is how she darkens certain areas for contrast, adds contact lenses, and finishes with big, fluttery eyelashes. I also really loved the black eyeliner she used around the eyes and mouth to create those traditional clown shapes. It fit perfectly with the “cute” side of the aesthetic. The pastel pinks and purples are gorgeous, but you could easily swap them for blues, or greens, if pink isn’t your thing.
Pairing it with a simple wig and a little hat was genius. It’s not over the top, so you can wear this for a birthday fancy dress celebration. And not have to commit to a full clown costume. It’s cute, creative, and easy to pull off.
Alyshia Jones
I first came across Alyshia Jones on Instagram a few years ago when she posted this incredible dragon-inspired makeup look. Alyshia is a former teacher and a self-taught makeup artist, now a full-time content creator, model, and social media manager from New Zealand. She’s been sharing her passion for beauty, SFX, fashion, travel, and lifestyle across her platforms since 2014.
Creepy / Horror Clown
Alyshia Jones’ horror clown look immediately caught my eye. It’s the perfect mix of creepy and classic without going full SFX overload. What I really loved about this tutorial is that she starts with the mouth first, which makes so much sense since it’s the focal point of the look. Her shading was incredible, and I thought it was genius how she used yellows to make the teeth look realistic instead of unnaturally bright white. Explaining each step clearly, she shared little tips she’s learned along the way.
For this look, Alyshia drew inspiration from Saw and Joker, and it was instantly recognisable where she incorporated elements from both franchises. The exaggerated smile, the eyes, the red nose, and even the tiny dickie bow. All whilst keeping it grounded in traditional clown makeup.
Her use of two different contact lenses added a hyper-creepy effect, and her blending was seamless, which is impressive with a white base as that can be tricky to work with.
Even though Alyshia is well-versed in SFX makeup, this look is surprisingly approachable. It could be a little fiddly for first-time beginners, but it’s very doable and a great way to practice. This is a brilliant creepy clown look that’s perfect for Halloween or any time you want to channel your inner nightmare.
Lana
I discovered Lana on Instagram and was immediately drawn to her stunning eye looks. She’s a creative makeup artist, known for bold, graphic designs and imaginative themes. From clowns to skulls, to characters from movies and shows. Even though Lana mainly creates short-form content, she always makes sure to list every product she’s using.
Vintage Clown
Lana has a dedicated section on her TikTok for all of her clown looks, which made it so easy to explore her work. But also surprisingly tricky to pick just one! I wanted something with a vintage feel, and Lana has some beautiful traditional and vintage-inspired clown looks. Created for both Pride Month and Halloween.
This particular 1920s-inspired design immediately stood out with its romantic, old-school charm. What’s wonderful is that it can easily be adapted. Either a soft, elegant take or given a slightly creepy twist with blood or dark colours. But showing that Halloween makeup ultimately, doesn’t always have to lean into horror.
The colour palette in this look is stunning. Lana stays true to her signature style, using vibrant, bold tones while maintaining that classic, vintage vibe. The balance between traditional aesthetics and bright, eye-catching colours gives the look so much personality. It’s a reminder that clown makeup can be playful and striking without needing to rely on the usual exaggerated red noses.
Even though Lana’s content is primarily short-form, watching it a few times makes recreating the look very achievable, even for someone less experienced. A perfect clown look for anyone who wants to stand out at Halloween without going full horror.
I hope you enjoyed the trip to the circus! All social media links can be found below. Please, please, please remember that if you recreate one of these looks, want to share them, or are inspired by another creator, be sure to credit them.
