A Christmas Hamper Guide For… The Makeup Lover

Makeup is such a fun and creative gifting area, and it suits so many ages and personalities. You could even adapt it for younger recipients with playful kids’ sets with a styling doll head.

Much like skincare, makeup can feel very personal, which is why it becomes such a thoughtful idea when you truly know the person you are shopping for.

It is also a wonderful way to treat someone who sees makeup as a passion or a stepping stone in their career, giving them the chance to explore new products they may not have tried before.

A collage-style graphic titled “A Christmas Hamper Guide For… Makeup.” The layout is divided into four numbered sections, each marked with a green circle: 1 – Complexion, 2 – Eyes, 3 – Lips, and 4 – Tools and Accessories.

Section 1 (Complexion):
A selection of primers, bronzers, blushers, contour sticks, setting sprays and multi-use face palettes. Products vary from tubes and compacts to pump bottles and sticks. Shades range from soft neutrals to deeper bronzes. Brands shown include Milk Makeup, Charlotte Tilbury, NARS, NYX, Fenty, Saie, Hourglass and Makeup Forever.

Section 2 (Eyes):
Eye primers, mascaras, eyeliners, brow pencils, brow gels, cream shadows and a few eyeshadow palettes. Items appear in black, brown, gold and pastel packaging. Mascara wands, liquid liner pens and brow products are arranged alongside palettes featuring warm neutrals and bronze tones. Brands include Anastasia Beverly Hills, Glossier, Charlotte Tilbury and W7.

Section 3 (Lips):
A wide range of lip products including balms, glosses, stains, lip oils, bullet lipsticks, crayons, liquid lipsticks and balm-tint hybrids. Shades include reds, pinks, browns and nude tones. Packaging styles include slim tubes, doe-foot applicators and small pots. Brands include NARS, Byoma, Glossier, Benefit, The Ordinary, Elf and Fenty Beauty.

Section 4 (Tools and Accessories):
Makeup bags, brush sets, cosmetic organisers, sponges and cleaning products. A variety of makeup brushes in silver, black and gold tones sit alongside sponge multipacks, kabuki brushes, eyelash curlers and brush cleansers. There are pouches, travel organisers and structured makeup cases in black, cream and olive green.

1. Complexion

Complexion products can be a little daunting, which is why I decided to step away from foundation and concealer. Shades, undertones, textures and preferred application methods vary so much from person to person. So instead, I focused on the rest of the complexion category. Blush, contour, bronzer and primer which offers far more flexibility, and they are products that many people enjoy experimenting with.

While putting this section together, I included a mix of brands and formulas I know and love. Alongside popular favourites that are often recommended. There is such a huge variety of finishes and colours available that you could easily create a complexion themed hamper on its own. Blushers in particular can come in such a wide range of shades. I was surprised by how much the selection had grown.

The only product I chose not to include is highlighter. I do not use them often enough to confidently recommend options. And many of the ones I found leaned heavily into that frosty, ultra-glam look that not everyone prefers.

2. Eyes & Eyebrows

Eye makeup is one of the easiest categories to build a full hamper around. There are so many directions you can take it, and it was actually quite tempting to fill the entire list with eyeshadow palettes alone. From soft matte to bold shimmer textures and colourful pigments, eyeshadow has taken on a world of its own.

For this section, I chose a variety of products that cover the basics while still offering room for fun and creativity. Eyeliners and mascaras are always reliable, and brows deserve their own spotlight considering how many gels, pencils and powders exist now.

I leaned towards natural tones and everyday colours because they tend to suit most people. But it is worth noting that brands offer some incredibly bright shades too. If the person you are gifting to enjoys experimenting, you can absolutely tailor this selection to include more vibrant options.

Whether someone prefers a simple wash of colour or a full glam look, this category gives you plenty of freedom to match their style. It is one of the wider areas to explore when building a makeup hamper.

3. Lips

The lip category offers a great mix of nostalgic favourites and modern formulas. While searching for products to include, I was delighted to discover that lip palettes are still very much around. They feel like such a throwback to the 90s yet have managed to stay relevant thanks to updated shades and textures.

Alongside palettes, I included a variety of lip oils, balms, glosses, suedes and bullet lipsticks. These products are usually easier to gift than complexion items because the shades are more forgiving, and even bold colours can be fun for someone who likes experimenting. Many brands now focus on comfort formulas that feel lightweight and hydrating, which makes this category perfect for winter gifting when lips tend to be a bit drier.

What I love about lip products is that they can instantly elevate a makeup look without requiring much skill or effort. They are versatile and beginner friendly.

4. Tools & Accessories

Tools and accessories are often overlooked, yet they can be some of the most useful items in a makeup collection. Depending on the person you are gifting, you could add just a couple of essentials or create an entire accessories themed gift. This works especially well for someone who already owns plenty of makeup but might not treat themselves to new tools very often.

Makeup sponges, brush sets and cleaning sprays are reliable staples that suit almost everyone. There are also more specialised options like lash curlers and travel organisers, which can be great additions for recipients who enjoy experimenting or frequently apply makeup on the go.

Tools last longer than most products, so they feel like a more substantial part of a hamper. If you know the recipient’s favourite brands or preferred style, you can tailor this section to match their aesthetic too. Whether you include a single brush set or curate a whole accessories bundle, these items help round out a makeup hamper.

And that’s the Makeup Lover Christmas Hamper Guide.
