Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Contour // The August Review

Rare Beauty has done it again. I am not a contour person. I find it really difficult to work with and the shades are always too dark, glittery or orange for my skin tone. This was so advertised to be better for pale skin and it did not disappoint.

A Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Contour in its frosted glass tube with a metallic gold cap. The cap is unscrewed, showing a large doe-foot applicator coated with the liquid contour. The sleek, minimalist packaging reflects Rare Beauty’s signature modern design.

Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Contour – £27.00 RRP

The brand describes the product as:

“Give the complexion a naturally lifted look with Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Contour, an easy-to-blend liquid contour created for a range of skin tones. This contour is ideal for adding depth to the natural contours of the face, such as the jawline, chin, forehead, nose and hollows of the cheeks. Crafted with a buildable, streak-free makeup formula, this Rare Beauty Liquid Contour helps enhance and add dimension with shadows that look real. Excellent for layering under or over makeup, this formula is never muddy, cakey, greasy or patchy. Created for a range of skin tones, Rare Beauty Liquid Contour has seven shades made with long-lasting pigments that provide all-day wear.”

Pros:

  • A little goes a long way.
  • Easy to blend.
  • Really pigmented.
  • Buildable.
  • Lightweight feel.
  • Perfect for brush or sponge users.

Cons:

  • Not the biggest fan of to doe-foot applicator.
  • Not as budget friendly.

The Verdict:

I’ve never been much of a contour girly, but this product has completely changed that. The shade I picked up, Gentle, works perfectly for me. Having a dual undertone that subtly shifts depending on whether my skin leans warmer or cooler on a given day, the greyer base makes it foolproof. I don’t have to worry about it looking too orange or muddy as I build it up.

I also love that it’s shimmer-free and matte. It makes it pair seamlessly with the Rare Beauty blush for a natural finish. Admittedly, contour is still a learning curve for me. This formula is very pigmented, so a little goes a long way and I’ve definitely overdone it at times. But even with that, it’s become the only contour I actually want to use, which says a lot.

The only drawback is the doe-foot applicator. It’s not the most sanitary, so you do need to be cautious about potential breakouts and definitely avoid sharing it.

At £27.00 I know this won’t be in everybody’s budget, but for reference I bought a Rare Beauty Blush and it’s still going. I’ll be reaching the 12 month expiration with product left over!
