NYX ‘The Face Glue’ Primer 24 Hour Hydration // The August Review
We’re finishing the month with a makeup product, and after buying a new foundation, I wanted to make sure I had a good primer, so I picked up the NYX Professional Makeup The Face Glue Primer.
I’ll be honest, the name alone didn’t exactly sell me on this one. The whole “sticky glue” aspect of the product was actually what put me off trying it for quite a while. But it seemed to be everywhere in the beauty community. And when I started seeing reviews that it was hydrating, I realised it was much more up my street. I decided it was finally time to give it a go.

The brand describes the product as:
“Your makeup is about to get stuck like glue! This gripping primer gives all of the glue with none of the icky stick for makeup that lasts up to 24 hours. No skin thirst here! This glue drenches skin in up to 24 hours of hydration! Foundation GLUED! Powder GLUED! Blush GLUED! The Face Glue Primer grips it all & hydrates skin for up to 24 hours! This formula contains Polyglutamic Acid, known to be extremely hydrating! And Maple Syrup, known for grip that’s extra AF. It’s giving glue-level grip, with no icky stick!”
Pros:

- Gives my skin a lovely hydrated base.
- Helps my makeup sit beautifully on the skin.
- Doesn’t leave the sticky or glue-like feeling I was worried about.
- Blends easily into my skin.
- Gives great coverage alongside my foundation.
- Makeup doesn’t pill when applied over it.
- Doesn’t cause my foundation to streak.
- Helps my makeup last longer.
- Works particularly well underneath my new foundation.
- Leaves my skin feeling comfortable and hydrated throughout the day.
- A little goes a long way.

The Verdict:
What better way to finish The August Review than with another makeup product that completely surprised me?
I have to admit, I wasn’t rushing to try the NYX The Face Glue Primer. The whole selling point of a “glue” primer actually put me off because the idea of deliberately putting something sticky on my face before applying makeup didn’t sound particularly appealing!
But after seeing so many good reviews, I eventually decided to give it a go. Especially because I’d just bought a new foundation and wanted to make sure I had a good base underneath it. And I’m so glad I did.
The first thing I noticed is that it doesn’t actually feel like glue on my skin! Yes, there’s a slight gripping feeling when you apply it, but I don’t find it uncomfortable or excessively sticky. Instead, it leaves my skin feeling hydrated and gives my makeup something lovely to sit on.
I’ve also had no problems with my makeup pilling or streaking over the top, which is one of my biggest concerns when trying a new primer. My foundation blends beautifully over it, and the whole makeup look lasts really well throughout the day.
I also think this is a fantastic option for the price. You don’t necessarily need to spend a fortune on a primer to get a good result. And I actually prefer using this over the Fenty Beauty Primer.
There isn’t a single con, based on my experience, so it feels like a very fitting product to end this year’s August reviews with.
