A Millennials Guide To Halloween Costumes // Disney Channel Edition

Back with another “A Millennials Guide” I felt there was nothing more millennial than the shows and movies on the Disney Channel.

Cartoon Lizzie from Lizzie McGuire

A collage featuring items for a Lizzie McGuire costume: a magenta ribbed tank top, high-waisted denim jeans, a pink backpack with the cartoon Lizzie's face, a bright yellow wavy wig, and a pair of orange clear platform slide sandals. In the center is the cartoon drawing of Lizzie McGuire wearing a magenta top, blue capri pants, and orange sandals. The text reads "Cartoon Lizzie - Lizzie McGuire".

Lizzie McGuire was a core part of so many millennials’ childhoods on the Disney Channel. Over the years, I’ve seen countless duo costumes inspired by The Lizzie McGuire Movie. But for those flying solo when repping the Disney Channel theme, I feel like cartoon Lizzie is seriously slept on. It’s such a simple costume to pull together! Most people already have dark jeans and a pink T-shirt, or could easily borrow them. The orange shoes were actually easier to find than I expected, and if you dressed as Velma last year, you may have some orange Mary Janes. I chose to include a yellow-blonde wig to really emphasise the cartoon side of the character. The bag is completely optional. It’s a bit of a splurge, but since so many people collect them, I thought it deserved a mention. And just like that, your Lizzie look is complete!

Kim from Kim Possible

A collage featuring items for a Kim Possible costume: a black long-sleeved mock turtleneck top, dark wash jeans with a black belt, black leather lace-up combat boots, black gloves, olive green cargo pants, a tactical utility belt bag in olive green, and a long straight orange wig. In the center is the logo and a cartoon drawing of Kim Possible. The text reads "Kim - Kim Possible".

With a new live-action version alongside the classic cartoon movies and series, Kim Possible remains the best high school girl saving the world one mission at a time. Much like the Lizzie look, I love the simplicity of this costume. It’s completely on-brand for a Disney Channel theme, instantly recognisable to millennials, and super comfortable to wear. The biggest bonus. I picked pieces you could easily find in your wardrobe, pick up cheaply from so many retailers, or even spot in a charity shop (or a thrift store if you’re a US reader). Most of the items can be reworn too, so if you do buy something new, it won’t just sit in the back of your wardrobe. And if you don’t have long hair, a styled red wig finishes the look perfectly.

Marnie from Halloweentown

A collage featuring items for a Marnie from Halloweentown costume: a red short-sleeved t-shirt, a long red patterned paisley skirt, a long purple velvet hooded cape, a purple velvet witch hat, and a pair of maroon patent leather combat boots. In the center is a movie still of Marnie and a male character from Halloweentown. The text reads "Marnie - Halloweentown".

Marnie is an iconic Halloween Disney Character. Marnie’s look was a little trickier to put together because so much of it can be thrifted or pieced together creatively. I found some great base items for the costume above if you don’t already have anything similar in your wardrobe. This outfit is perfect if you’re going for a Disney Channel theme and fancy a bit of DIY this Halloween. As you can easily add stars and moons to the cloak and hat to bring the look to life. I also wanted to give a quick shout-out to Disturbia. They are a brand that has some fantastic witchy pieces that fit the vibe perfectly. But, they’re on the pricier side, so I didn’t include them in the core costume suggestions above.

And that wraps up A Millennial’s Guide to Halloween Costumes: Disney Channel Edition! This one was definitely a challenge. There are just so many officially licensed Disney costumes out there. But, as always, I wanted to create a guide that helps you make the most of what you already own (or can easily find) while still keeping that nostalgic Disney magic alive!
