A Millennials Guide To Halloween Costumes // 90’s Edition

With the cost of living crisis, I wanted to put together costume ideas for Halloween that would be affordable, thus ‘A Millennials Guide’ was born, this being the 90’s edition. The title of this series is completely inspired by Holly Jackson’s A Good Girl’s Guide series.

I picked a character from a cartoon, TV show and a movie. Choosing characters thinking people may have some of these clothing pieces for every day. I hope this helps those who are still looking for ideas!

Spinelli from Recess

Recess is one of those iconic Disney cartoons, with Spinelli being one of the most memorable of the characters. Full of attitude, ready to fight for her friends and for what is right. I think it’s really easy to put the outfit together. I also think she’s well known for the costume to be recognisable, even when dressing as a cartoon character.

Fran Fine from The Nanny

I don’t know about anyone else, but my TikTok has been filled with clips from The Nanny. It was a no-brainer to choose Fran Fine, as who to dress up as from a 90’s TV Show. I even came to find there is a website dedicated to her fashion.

Although there were many fun and bright looks, the character also dresses in black and white a lot. As well as these classic prints like the blazer and skirt co-ord pictured above. This style has been in fashion a lot recently. I thought, if you didn’t already have a set like this, it’d be easy to find one!

Ellie Sattler from Jurassic Park

There were many groundbreaking films released in the 1990’s. Whether it was advances in cinematography, special effects makeup or even because it introduced us to actors and actresses, we now consider ‘legendary’. For me, Jurassic Park is one of those groundbreaking films. Because, well… the dinosaurs! But it has also given us an iconic look for Halloween.

It’s another that is recognisable, easy to put together and I mainly chose this because of the comfort factor. I think we forget just how uncomfortable mass-produced Halloween costumes can be. Which is why I like to try and piece things together from everyday clothing.

And that was A Millennials Guide To Halloween Costumes, 90’s Edition. I have a few more planned, let me know what you think or you have any suggestions?

As always, thanks for reading…
