31 Days of Halloween & Horror Movies
If, like me, you love using October as an excuse to embrace Halloween fully, I have something for you… 31 Days of Halloween & Horror Movies!
First, a little apology for going quiet! It’s been a particularly busy period at work, and just when I thought things might be calming down, I came down with the awful cold that seems to be going around. I’m still not quite 100%, but I’m slowly getting back into things. And what better way to do that than with some Halloween movie recommendations?
I’ve created two Halloween movie calendars for October 2026. One is packed with horror classics and favourites, and the other is filled with more family-friendly Halloween films. The idea is simple: one movie a day, from 1st October all the way through to Halloween.
I wanted to create these for anyone who wants to really embrace the Halloween season, discover or revisit some absolute classics, and have a bit of fun with their October viewing. There are some absolute classics, some nostalgic favourites, a few newer releases, and plenty of films that just feel like October.
Of course, you don’t have to stick rigidly to the dates. If you miss a day, have a movie marathon at the weekend! If there’s a film you don’t fancy, swap it for one you’ve been meaning to watch. The important thing is just to have fun with it.
Starting with…
31 Days Of Halloween

The family calendar is designed for those who want to get into the Halloween spirit without going straight into full-on horror.
There are plenty of animated favourites, nostalgic Disney classics, spooky comedies and Halloween staples here. Some are definitely more spooky than others, so as always, it’s worth checking the suitability for your own family. Especially with some of the darker choices later in the month.
The films included above are;
- It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966)
- Casper (1995)
- Coco (2017)
- The Witches (1990)
- Hotel Transylvania (2012)
- Corpse Bride (2005)
- Goosebumps (2015)
- The Addams Family (1991)
- Scooby-Doo (2002)
- Halloweentown (1998)
- Haunted Mansion (2023)
- Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005)
- Frankenweenie (2012)
- Ghostbusters (1984)
- Gremlins (1984)
- Monster House (2006)
- E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
- The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (1949)
- Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet Frankenstein (1999)
- Double, Double, Toil and Trouble (1993)
- The Little Vampire (2000)
- The Black Cauldron (1985)
- Twitches (2005)
- ParaNorman (2012)
- Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire (2000)
- The House with a Clock in Its Walls (2018)
- We Have a Ghost (2023)
- Edward Scissorhands (1990)
- Beetlejuice (1988)
- Hocus Pocus (1993)
- The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
There are definitely some films here that I think will trigger a serious dose of nostalgia. Casper, Halloweentown, Twitches, Double, Double, Toil and Trouble and Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire are particularly giving me childhood Halloween TV vibes!
31 Days Of Horror

If you’re looking for something a little darker, I’ve also created a 31 Days of Horror Movie Calendar. From genre-defining classics to slashers, supernatural horror, psychological thrillers and some much newer releases.
There’s a bit of everything here, so whether you’re a huge horror fan or just fancy using October to work your way through some of the films you’ve somehow never seen, there’s plenty to choose from.
And yes, there are some big classics on this list:
- The Shining (1980)
- Psycho (1960)
- The Thing (1982)
- Scream (1996)
- A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

- Salem’s Lot (2024)
- The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
- The Conjuring (2013)
- The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
- Nosferatu (2024)
- Weapons (2025)
- I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)
- Friday the 13th (1980)
- Clown in a Cornfield (2025)
- Carrie (1976)
- Saw (2004)
- The Amityville Horror (2005)
- Dawn of the Dead (2004)
- Children of the Corn (1984)
- 28 Days Later (2002)
- IT (2018)
- The Babadook (2014)
- The Exorcist (1973)

- Get Out (2017)
- Misery (1990)
- The Cabin in the Woods (2012)
- Sleepy Hollow (1999)
- Halloween (1978)
And ending on Halloween for the 31st of October just felt right.
Joining In?
The best thing about a movie calendar is that you can make it your own.
You could watch one film every night, save a few for Halloween weekend, pick and choose your favourites, or even challenge yourself to watch all 31.
I’d love to know if anyone actually uses these calendars! If you decide to follow along, tag me on Instagram or comment below and let me know which film you’re watching. And if you watch something because you spotted it on one of these calendars, I’d especially love to hear what you thought.
Have you discovered a new favourite? Finally watched a classic you’d somehow missed? Or completely disagreed with one of my choices? Let me know! 🎃🍿
You can find me on Facebook, Instagram, Threads or Pinterest.
As always, thanks for reading…
