It Was Black & White On The Night // BAFTAs Red Carpet
The red carpet brought stunning outfits and it was black and white on the night. The 76th British Academy Film Awards, hosted by the brilliant Richard E Grant and Alison Hammond was truly a night of showcasing the amazing talent in film at the moment. On a side note, I encourage you to watch All Quiet On The Western Front. In a similar fashion to my Golden Globes post, here are 5 outfits I loved from this year’s red carpet.
Hayley Atwell
Back in 2015, when I spoke about the BAFTAs red carpet looks, Hayley Atwell was one I loved. I’ve always been so eager to see her choices for events since.
Wearing Cong Tri, the Mission Impossible actress stunned in this two piece.
I always think, adding texture to an outfit is a lot riskier than going with a bold print. It was especially smart to pair the top with a simple skirt, adding a little extra drama with the train.
When Hayley walked on stage to present an award, the movement was gorgeous.
Naomi Ackie
Wearing Loewe, ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ actress Naomi Ackie is a dream in white. I am loving how they have taken this new futuristic fashion trend and applied it to a classic silhouette so gorgeously.
The sweetheart neckline is the perfect cut for this mirrored peplum belt piece.
I was so happy to see white and silver together for a change. Most of the time, gold is the go to colour.
I can see mirror pieces and futuristic pieces being the go to for red carpets this year, but for me, Naomi Ackie has set the bar.
Gwendoline Christie
From her influential looks on ‘Wednesday’ to most recently, breaking down her most iconic looks with Vogue, Gwendoline Christie is one to take notes from.
A vision in Giles Deacon, Gwendoline knows how to make you stop and double take on the red carpet. In the best way!
As someone who is also a tall woman, I know how hard it can be to dress for your body and Gwendoline knows how to do it.
I really love the spacing between the layers on this dress, it accents the belted waist perfectly.
The high PVC neckline and belt are just *chefs kiss*.
Emma Thompson
Emma Thompson is one of the few people who can rock a pair of trainers on the red carpet.
Wearing Laura Pitharas, this trouser and blazer co-ord with matching coat is 100% her.
Emma is known for her suit-style red carpet looks and I always feel like she has a modern Audrey Hepburn-esq feel to her outfits.
I love the fit of this. It doesn’t come across as too work like and yet isn’t overly casual.
I’ve said before I’m not the biggest fan of all white outfits, mainly because I’m such a clutz, but this is something I’d love to wear.
What really grabs me is the narrow v-shaped neckline. It gives shape to a broader shouldered blazer and is so complimentary to Emma’s hairstyle.
Michelle Yeoh
Breaking my favourites list with some colour, Michelle Yeoh walked the red carpet in Dior.
I love this dusky pink. It suits Michelle perfectly, and I always think this colour works best in a two piece for more formal events.
It’s a new silhouette for Michelle on this year’s awards campaign.
The capelet blazer has a lovely complimentary contrast to the fitted trousers. I also think going for a double breasted blazer works better for the movement of the cape.
Michelle is another one I’ll be watching when it comes to red carpet events. As well as being so stylish, I love what she does with her hair and makeup.
And that’s my favourite 5 outfits from this years BAFTAs. What do you think of black and white dominating the red carpet? Is there anything hear you would wear? or wouldn’t wear?
As always, thanks for reading…
