The Land Of Oz // Creator Edition
With the new Wicked movie set to be released soon, I thought it would be great to take a trip to The Land of Oz for this week’s Creator Edition post.
Many creators have shared their take on these classic characters over the years and with so many versions of this story, it was difficult to pick a favourite. Although I have shared a few creators today, you may find another version you prefer or feel you can create with your skill level. So, have a search and if you do find someone else, please comment and share for others to see.
Jackie Wyers
Jackie Wyers is a Canadian content creator and professionally trained makeup artist who creates stunning pop culture, vintage, and whimsical looks. I’ve been subscribed to Jackie for years after discovering some of her hair tutorial videos. As a big fan of her content, I’ve tried many times to recreate her looks. Jackie always gets as close to the original and as glamorous as possible, which is perfect for Halloween and beyond.
Glinda & Elphaba
Jackie has created an incredible two-look video, featuring Ariana Grande’s version of Glinda from the upcoming Wicked movie, and a YASSified Elphaba. I find Jackie’s tutorials very easy to follow, whether you’re a visual or auditory learner, with each step clearly shown and explained.
With so many people recreating the new movie looks, the contrast between sticking to the movie version for the Glinda part of the tutorial and going for an inspired version for the Elphaba part shows just how recognizable these characters are. I especially appreciate that not everyone is comfortable with painting themselves, so offering a dramatic, glam look as an option is fantastic. I love both looks, and I also like that Jackie is using products from Wicked-inspired makeup lines. Many people will be curious about the products, and it’s great to see them featured in a matching tutorial.
Emily Temby
Emily Temby is a UK-based content creator who has crafted many vibrant, bold, and artistic makeup looks—just using makeup and body paint! Currently rising in popularity on TikTok, often appearing on my For You page before I even followed her. Since following, her creativity and imagination have continued to capture my attention.
Dorothy
Dorothy is a classic Halloween go-to costume, but I think a lot of people just add two pigtails and a red lip for the makeup. Here, Emily has paid attention to all the little details, like the thinner, rounded brows that were trendy at the time. And the wispy eyelashes she’s chosen are perfect. It’s hard to believe this was all created with makeup and body paint. For those working from home and not wanting to invest in a full costume, this is a great option for Zoom meetings!
Cowardly Lion
I love, love, love this look. The way she’s created volume and curled her hair to pin for the mane is… chef’s kiss. I picked this one from her Wizard of Oz looks to share because it would be perfect for kids. The makeup is so easy to follow, and it doesn’t require many colours you wouldn’t already have in a larger eyeshadow palette. Plus, it’s another great option if you don’t want to buy a full costume. If their hair isn’t long enough, you can easily find affordable curly wigs online. So creative and so simple yet effective.
Brooke Ellis
Brooke Ellis is another UK content creator I’ve seen growing rapidly on TikTok. Creating many pop culture character looks, sometimes dabbling in SFX and prosthetics while keeping it simple. With many creators now taking to TikTok, Brooke has uploaded over 1,000 videos—she’s been busy! It’s also been wonderful to see how much she has grown as a makeup artist and how her hard work has paid off.
Scarecrow
The detail in this look is incredible. How Brooke was able to shade the rope, and eye sockets, and carve out facial features when a scarecrow is supposed to have a hessian sack for a face is amazing. The little touches with the hay, the hat, and even the red eye contacts elevate this as a more Halloween-inspired version of the look. It’s another great option for Zoom calls, and for Halloween parties if you already have a flannel and jeans in your wardrobe.
Tin Man
When I saw this look, I initially thought it would be best for someone with experience in makeup. Especially Halloween makeup, as silver body paint has a reputation for being patchy. But I was in awe watching this video. I love the Tin Man and feel he’s often overlooked when it comes to makeup. With most people opting for the licensed costume. If you have the time and skill—or even if you want to develop your skills I would 100% recommend being the Tin Man for Halloween. Purely after seeing this tutorial. I love the choices, from the exaggerated rust to the more vintage-style funnel for the hat. Brooke really did her research.
And that concludes our trip to The Land of Oz. All social media links can be found below. Please, please, please remember that if you recreate one of these looks, want to share them, or are inspired by another creator, be sure to credit them.
