The Big Picture // A Crafting Activity

The Big Picture, a crafting activity, is something I think will be great for those with children, who babysit or are childminders. I also find this is a keep sake idea, which is very nostalgic. It’s a very simple and budget-friendly crafting activity you can keep coming back to.

Crafting Supplies You Will Need

  • A roll or two of paper.
  • Pens, markers, crayons…etc. Depending on the age of the child, you can use paint).
  • Scissors.
  • Adhesive.
  • Paper shapes.
  • Plain sticker labels and decorative stickers.
  • A rubber band.
  • Newspaper.

The Activity

Always start by laying down newspaper to protect the surface you are working on. Roll out the paper and start drawing, painting, sticking…whatever the little one’s fancy doing. This is a normal rainy-day activity. But, it’s a great way to keep all of their art together. When they have finished, or when it’s dry, you can roll it up, secure it with an elastic band and store it away for another day. It really is that simple of an activity.

Additional Suggestions

  • Use this as an opportunity for the child(ren) to document their day to day and/or events. It will make a great memory item.
  • I’ve found this is great for winding down time, so when the child(ren) says they don’t want to stop their livelier play time, you can say something along the lines of “we have to draw this on our big picture”.
  • I included plain labels so you can stick the name, date and age of the child on the back of or next to each image.
  • When you come to the end of the paper roll, either tape or glue the beginning of another roll so it will carry on being endless!
  • I find shops like The Works and Wilko budget friendly.

I hope this is a crafting activity that your little ones come to love. Please comment below if it is something you try out.

As always, thanks for reading…
