Book Challenges For 2025 // Bookmas Day 12

For the final day of Bookmas, I thought I would highlight a few different book challenges. In case you are still looking for a challenge or two for next year!

An open lined notebook placed on a round black table, with a yellow pencil and a matching yellow highlighter resting in the center. The background shows a wooden floor and part of a white baseboard against a wall, giving the scene a simple and cozy atmosphere.

Diving in…

Books And Lala

Kayla from Books and Lala has been hosting the Buzzwordathon Book Challenge for a few years now. This year, she introduced two challenges. The original challenge involves picking a book that fits the monthly buzzword prompt, while the new cover challenge requires you to read a book with the buzzword featured on the cover. You can choose to do one or both challenges. I’ve even seen some people mention tackling both at the same time—hats off to them for finding those books!

I love this kind of challenge because it doesn’t restrict you to a specific genre. Of course, some buzzwords may appear more often in certain genres, but there’s plenty of flexibility to find something that suits your reading taste if you prefer not to branch out.

Literary Diversions

I love Lianne and her infamous “Bingo Boards from Hell.” It’s such a great concept for keeping your book goals front and center throughout the year.

This kind of challenge is perfect for anyone looking to tackle their TBR. For instance, your goal could be to read 10 books featuring the grumpy x sunshine trope—all while knowing you already have 10 of them sitting on your physical TBR.

Lianne’s book goals always make me laugh, partly because you can tell she’s determined to complete them, even if she didn’t really want to write them down in the first place. Her goals inspired my own in my 25 for 2025 plan, which includes reading more nonfiction and finishing some book series.

The 52 Book Club

This is another challenge that has been running for the past few years. It’s designed to encourage you to read a book a week, though you don’t have to follow the prompts in order. The prompts range from broad ones like “set in the spring” to more specific ones such as “climate fiction.”

What I truly love about this challenge is the effort that has gone on behind the scenes. The 52 Book Club has created Goodreads reading lists for each prompt, so if you’re feeling stuck, you have plenty of options to choose from.

With so many reading challenges, and my already ambitious reading plans for next year… do I partake one of these? Which one do you think you could complete?

As always, thanks for reading…
