Beetlejuice // Creator Edition
The Creator Edition series is back for another year, and it is kicking off with Beetlejuice. If this is the first time you’ve come across the Creator Edition series, it is where I share many different creators’ tutorials whether that be makeup, costume or DIY’s.
I previously showed where you can get some Beetlejuice costumes in my A Millennial’s Guide To Halloween Costumes // Beetlejuice Edition post. So of course, I wanted to share some amazing makeup looks to go with them.
Pinkstylist
Charlie Short, a.k.a. Pinkstylist, is a UK content creator and special effects makeup artist. They celebrate Halloween all year round and put amazing twists on popular franchises and classic spooky characters. I came across Charlie years ago when I saw their makeup tutorial for The Silence from Doctor Who. I’ve learned a lot from them while creating my own Halloween looks over the years, and when I had the idea for this post, they instantly came to mind.
Cartoon Beetlejuice
When we think of Beetlejuice, Tim Burton’s movie with Michael Keaton in the lead role comes to mind for almost everyone. However, a few may also remember the Beetlejuice cartoon. Here, Charlie has merged both the movie and the cartoon, and the result is incredible. I love how you can experiment with items like a bald cap and liquid latex, or keep it affordable by using only makeup and body paint products. You know you’ll be the talk of the party with this look.
BOB!
Justice for BOB! This look is perfect for those who have more time for makeup on Halloween or for anyone wanting to experiment with prosthetics. This is my favourite Beetlejuice tutorial. Charlie breaks down each step, not only making it easy to follow but also explaining the reasoning behind their choices. For example, why they chose to use prosthetics or why the wrinkles on the forehead are applied more heavily than usual. I also feel that Charlie offers a lot of different options with this look to suit various comfort levels. Not everyone may want to use the fake eyes, but Charlie explains how you can use contacts instead. This is one of those looks that’s incredibly effective, and I’m so glad they shared it.
Natasha Jane Wood
Natasha Jane Wood is a UK-based creator, makeup artist, and self-proclaimed ‘creepy YouTuber.’ I recently came across Natasha while scrolling through TikTok and enjoyed seeing makeup-only looks on their channel. Their ‘Twisted Disney’ series also caught my attention. This series is inspired by another creator featured in a past Creator Edition: Holly Murray.
Miss Argentina
With the release of the Beetlejuice musical, I feel like Miss Argentina has become a more popular go-to character from the franchise to dress up as. In this video, Natasha lip-syncs to the movie whilst clearly showing each makeup step. The product list can be found on their Instagram post, and aside from the body paint colour, everything else is makeup. I appreciate how accessible the products are and how most items can be swapped out if you’re on a budget. Out of everything used, the red Natasha chose here is bold and perfect for this character.
Delores
Without spoiling the newest movie, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Delores is a new character we are introduced to, and I can see her becoming the ‘Harley Quinn’ of this Halloween season. Once again, you can find all the products on Natasha’s Instagram. I love her take on this look. I’ve seen a few creators go for a smokey eye or keep the makeup quite precise, whereas Natasha has fully embraced the smudges and staples. They look very effective and baffles me how this look is achieved entirely with makeup.
Charisma Star
Charis Lincoln or Charisma Star as known on YouTube, is a US Content creator, and another I came across years ago. This Disney-loving creator got me hooked with their Mad Hatter-inspired tutorial and I haven’t looked back. Charis is always so positive in their videos and goes all out with the concept and filming set-up. You can always see the love for what they do in their content.
Lydia Deetz
Lydia Deetz comes in with the iconic red wedding look, a memorable 80s character who is highly recognisable from the Beetlejuice franchise. I sometimes wonder if Lydia inspired Gale Weathers’s bangs in Scream 3. Charis dramatised the look, and I loved the added sparkle, the overshadowed eyes, and the thick, pointed lashes that matched the bangs. I think many of us forget that in the movie, Lydia is essentially a child bride at one point. This makeup look not only emphasises that but does so in a very 80s way, like a teen trying makeup for the first time. Out of many tutorials, I loved Charis’s version of this makeup.
Beetlejuice – Girl Version
When I scroll through social media, it’s mostly women who go all out with the makeup side of costumes. So when I saw Charis upload this female version of Beetlejuice, I was intrigued. Aside from the body paint base, this is makeup-focused and something I think any makeup lover could put together without needing to buy much. I love how Charis considered Tim Burton’s style when making choices, not just the movie makeup. In true Charis fashion, this look includes lots of sparkle and is over-dramatized, similar to the Lydia tutorial above.
And that is the Beetlejuice Creator Edition post. All social media links can be found below. Please, please, please remember that if you recreate one of these looks, want to share them, or are inspired by another creator, be sure to credit them.
