What Is The “In” Fashion // SAG Awards 2025

Red carpet fashion in 2025 has been… interesting, with last night’s SAG Awards only reinforcing what I’ve been wondering all season: What exactly is going on with red carpet style this year?

Of course this is all my own opinion. Fashion is subjective, and if someone feels amazing in what they’re wearing, that’s what truly matters. But as someone who follows trends and loves creating posts on red carpet fashion moments, I can’t help but question the overall direction we’re seeing.

Fashion has been having a major nostalgia moment lately. The past few years I’ve seen many comebacks; platform shoes, cargo trousers, and skorts in everyday style. While the red carpet has been throwing it back with sheer dresses, choker-style necklaces, and fur coats.

Then there’s the classic Hollywood elegance—40s and 50s silhouettes, timeless cuts, and bold color palettes. Something you will always find at a film or tv red carpet event. These can be beautifully done with modern tweaks. Whether in the hair, makeup and accessories or with embellishments and different fabric choices on the outfit. Looking at the carpets this year, the ladies in the classic Hollywood style have been the standouts for me. And below, I’ve included my three favourites from last night’s SAG awards.

Normally, I love the “avant garde” of it all. And I struggle to narrow down my favourite looks of the night, but this season has flipped that experience on its head. After last week’s BAFTAs, I found myself struggling to pick more than a handful of outfits I loved. It’s not that everything was bad—many looks played it safe with classic styles, while others leaned into embellishment or bold colours and accessorising. Sometimes I personally found it too much. But what’s missing for me is a clear definition of the trend for this red carpet season.

Are we in a transitional phase? Is there a new aesthetic on the horizon? Or is red carpet fashion just throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks? I’d love to hear your thoughts—are you loving the variety, or are you as confused as I am?

As always, thanks for reading…
